A range of class types to suit your needs

If you are a beginner, here’s what to expect from our pilates classes

Stepping into anything new – like your first Pilates class – can seem a bit daunting, but we really do make it easy to start. Our team is warm, experienced, and ready to guide you every step of the way.

  • Small, supportive classes with a max of 8 people
  • Every class led by a qualified physiotherapist
  • Instructors will check in with you and help you feel comfortable throughout
  • All sessions use the Reformer for safe, tailored resistance
  • Friendly, modern studio in Bristol
  • Free taster session available for new clients
  • Suitable for all abilities and ages (we also run specific Senior Pilates Classes)

Our classes are reformer-based

A Reformer is a cushioned, sliding bed fitted with springs, straps, and a foot bar.  Although the Reformer can look unfamiliar at first, it’s actually designed to support your movement – especially if you’re new to Pilates.

The adjustable springs allow exercises to be made gentler or more supported, which helps you move with better control and confidence. This makes Reformer Pilates one of the safest ways to build strength and mobility when you’re starting out.

Curious about the equipment? Read our Beginner’s Guide to Reformer Pilates to learn more about what makes it such a unique and effective way to move.

Pilates designed for beginners

If you’re new to Pilates, you don’t need to be fit, flexible, or confident to get started at Lyfe Health Bristol. Many of our clients begin Pilates with us feeling unsure – and quickly realise they’re in the right place.

Our beginner-friendly classes focus on:

  • Building confidence in movement
  • Improving strength and mobility safely
  • Learning good technique at your own pace

You won’t be pushed to keep up or expected to know what you’re doing. Instructors adapt exercises to suit different abilities, and classes remain small so you feel supported throughout.

Our studio is fully equipped to support beginners, including:

  • Reformer machines with adjustable resistance
  • Pilates Towers and supportive rehab tools
  • Matwork and accessories used to improve control and stability

Depending on how you’d like to start, we offer:

  • Clinical Pilates for extra guidance, injury recovery, or reassurance
  • Fitness-focused Pilates once you feel more confident
  • One-to-one sessions for personalised support
  • Small group classes so you’re never lost in the room

If you’re unsure which option is right for you, a free taster class. is a great place to begin. We’ll then follow up with a one-to-one session to understand your goals and help you choose the right class.

There’s a good chance you will be. Most of our beginner Pilates clients are new to Pilates or returning to movement after a break. Classes are mixed-ability but supportive, and you won’t be expected to keep up with anyone else.

You’ll be welcomed by your instructor, shown how the equipment works, and guided through exercises step by step. Instructors check in with you throughout the class and offer options to make movements feel more comfortable or more challenging if needed.

No. Many people who join our Bristol Pilates classes are complete beginners. Our physio-led instructors guide you clearly through each movement and adapt exercises so you can work at a pace that feels right for you.

Reformer Pilates follows the same principles as mat based Pilates, but is a little different! Reformer Pilates is done using the Pilates Reformer machine and is generally more intense and more dynamic than mat based Pilates as it adds resistance to the Pilates exercises via the use of the springs which form part of the machine.

Easy.  Once you have tried your taster class, if you are keen to continue, simply book in for a Pilates Assessment and our APPI trained Physiotherapist instructors will talk to you about your medical history, goals, and any experience you have with Pilates.  They may also run you through our 3D Movement Analysis and Gait Scan technology to make sure we have a clear understanding of your starting point.

Think of Reformer Pilates like an exercise class – wear something you are comfortable in, and that you don’t mind getting a little sweaty!  you’ll need to wear specific Pilates socks in our studio, but don’t worry if you don’t have any, we sell these in our clinic.
